Wide hoops, built from woven strands rather than solid metal.

Fine lengths of gold cross over one another in a repeating lattice around the whole band, leaving open gaps between them. That openwork is what keeps a hoop this broad from feeling heavy on the ear.

Weaving takes far more construction than forming a plain tube, and unlike surface texture it cannot be faked. You can see straight through it.
