Fine ribs, cut across the whole surface.

The hoop is squared through the base with soft corners, and narrow grooves run over it from edge to edge, so light breaks into a series of thin bands rather than one clean sweep. Held still they look almost fluted.

Ribbing is an old goldsmith's answer to a plain surface. It adds interest without adding bulk, and unlike a stone it can never fall out.
